How we make sure the numbers are right

If we can't meet your accuracy with the instrument named, we tell you before you buy.

Accuracy
Scans and modelsChecked against separate reference points that were not used to build the model. Reported as average error (RMSE), following the ASPRS mapping accuracy standard, Edition 2.
PartsEvery feature checked against its drawing tolerance (ASME Y14.5), with how precise each measurement is.
Every report listsThe instrument, its calibration status, site conditions and who measured.
Condition scoring

Each item we monitor gets one number: how much of its allowed limit it has used. The margin of error is shown next to it. The verdict is within limit, over limit, or re-measure when the margin of error crosses the limit.

Example (illustration)Value
ItemFloor flatness
Allowed limit15 mm
Measured9.6 mm ± 1.2 mm
Limit used64% ± 8%
VerdictWithin limit

± figures are stated at about 95% confidence. Scoring follows Real Reveal's own method, written up as a draft standard.

Equipment
Laser scanningLeica BLK360 G2 terrestrial laser scanner
DronesFlown by HISS. Each quote names the aircraft. Drones from manufacturers barred by federal rules are not used on federal work.
Part inspectionOn your coordinate measuring machine or at an agreed facility. The machine and its calibration are named in the report.
Testing our methods

Before we use a new analysis method on your data, we test it on practice scenes with known defects. We write down the right answers first and check them only after our results are final. The results, misses included, are on file.
